WH Bence are extremely pleased to have been involved with an exciting project to deliver a state of the art Media and Outside Broadcast vehicle to a group of educational institutions in London. Led by Lampton School, the project involved designing and building a mobile facility to provide a mobile studio with outside broadcast functionality, together with multimedia and performance facilities. This unit will help increase the learning opportunities for students involved in the Diploma in Creative and Media Studies across four schools, a college and a city learning centre. They are Brentford City Learning Centre, Brentford School for Girls, Cranford Community College, Heston Community School, West Thames College Hounslow and, of course, Lampton School which worked closely with WH Bence in designing the unit and managing the project.
The mobile unit has been built on a 26 tonne IVECO Stralis chassis which provides an internal space of approximately 50 metres squared. The space is achieved by the use of innovative hydraulic slide-out pod sections with a folding floor system to provide internal accommodation for the range of IT equipment which includes Apple Mac PC systems, a sophisticated sound system and ceiling mounted projectors. The unit also boasts Broadband internet connectivity via a roof mounted satellite system enabling the unit to be fully connected to the internet wherever the unit may be.
The unit also has a broadcasting studio to allow the students to produce internet radio broadcasts and high quality video productions. The studio is fully soundproofed to outside broadcasting quality.
Externally, the unit has a modular stage for outside live performances.
The unit is fully air conditioned internally and has an on-board silent running generator which provides all the electrical requirements for the unit enabling the unit to function independently. The unit is stabilised using hydraulic legs with an electro-hydraulic lift system at the rear of the unit for disabled access.
The unit will be an ideal platform to assist the students with their studies in the future.
